Personal Income, Per Capita : 2011
An individual's income reflects their ability to afford aspects of a healthy lifestyle, preventive medicine and curative care not provided to the individual through government, business, trade groups or other sources. Personal income has also been shown to negatively correlate to morbidity and mortality, meaning that higher income individuals experience lower illness and death.
Data for personal income is from the Regional Economic Information System, Bureau of Economic Analysis, U.S. Department of Commerce. Per capita personal income is total personal income divided by total mid-year population.
The measures tracked by America's Health Rankings are those actions that can
affect the future health of the population. For a state to improve the health of
its population, efforts must focus on these measures, these determinants of health.
