Based upon data collected through the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) and the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), the prevalence of obesity in the Missouri is estimated to increase from the current level of 33.50% obese to 47.40% obese in 2018.

Economic Cost of Obesity
Today, it is estimated that $1,924 million dollars is spent due to obesity in the Missouri. With the projected increase in obesity levels, this will increase to $8,205 million dollars in 2018 or about ($1,834 dollars per adult in the Missouri.

Cost of Inaction
If the Missouri were to halt the increase in the prevalence of obesity at today’s levels, we could save $1,080 per adult in 2018. That is a total of $4,830 million in the Missouri in 2018.
