The methodology used for America's Health Rankings was updated in the 2009 Edition to provide an improved comparison of national health on a state-by-state basis.  This change was recommended by the scientific advisory committee who guides the creation of the Rankings to better reflect the true differences among states.  As a result, the ranks published in earlier editions have changed.  The new methodology was applied retroactively over the last 20 years of data making it possible to do a side-by-side historical comparison at the state level.
