The Health Outcomes category directly measures the burden of disease and impacts on life expectancy and mental and physical health and well-being. Health Outcomes is one of five categories of measures used in the America’s Health Rankings model, which is built upon the World Health Organization’s definition of health: “Health is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” The other four categories — Social and Economic Factors, Clinical Care, Behaviors and Physical Environment — influence and are influenced by Health Outcomes, reflecting the impact of social determinants of health.
